Teaching students to be good stewards of their bodies and health
If our students are to fully grow in godliness, they must be taught to be good stewards of their bodies. Paul commanded that we present our bodies “a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God” (Rom. 12:1). The body of the believer is “the temple of the Holy Ghost,” and we are called to glorify God in our bodies and in our spirits, both of which “are God’s” (1 Cor. 6:19–20).
The purpose of our physical education program is threefold: first, to promote in students a sense of gratitude for the wonders of the body they possess; second, to teach students that caring for their bodies is their reasonable service to God; and third, to encourage students to value their health, fitness, Christian work, and leisure throughout their lives.
The PE curriculum is designed to teach basic motor skills, development of coordination and perception, organized game playing, teamwork, endurance, and strength training. Physical training promotes the growth of the whole child and is specifically related to cognitive development.
